The event was hosted by the Government of Cameroon in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat and took place from 4 to 8 May 2026. The theme of the conference was the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) in the fight against corruption. In the final communiqué, participants noted the need for governments to support the integration of AI as one of the tools for combating corruption and financial crimes.
Following the conference, representatives of anti-corruption agencies agreed on a number of areas for further work. These include advancing the digital transformation of public service delivery to promote transparency and accountability, using digital technologies to prevent corruption in public contracts and promote transparency in the management of public finances, improving mechanisms for the recovery of stolen assets, and strengthening cooperation between state and non-state actors.
Particular attention was paid to the institutional development of anti-corruption agencies themselves. Conference participants highlighted the need to improve mechanisms aimed at enhancing their effectiveness, independence and sustainability, as well as to develop international cooperation and partnerships.
Another area of work identified was building the capacity of the anti-corruption workforce to use different forms of AI, including for evidence gathering in the investigation and prosecution of corruption cases. The communiqué also separately noted the need to empower young people with meaningful tools enabling them to deploy AI and contribute to building a culture of integrity.
