IAACA Holds Its First Conference in Europe

The first European Regional Conference of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) was held in Budapest.

The event took place on 13–15 May 2026 and was organized by IAACA jointly with the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), the Integrity Authority of Hungary (Integritás Hatóság), Italy’s National Anti-Corruption Authority (Autorità Nazionale Anticorruzione), and Greece’s National Transparency Authority (Εθνική Αρχή Διαφάνειας).

The conference became IAACA’s first major regional event in Europe. It brought together more than 180 representatives of over 70 anti-corruption, law enforcement and regulatory bodies, as well as experts from Europe and other regions.

The main focus of the event was the development of international cooperation amid increasingly complex corruption risks. Participants discussed, among other issues, the use of artificial intelligence, big data and digital solutions to detect and prevent corruption, new approaches to promoting integrity, and the implementation of the new EU anti-corruption directive.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, IAACA President and ICAC Commissioner Danny Woo Ying-ming noted that combating corruption requires professional cooperation that goes beyond geopolitical differences. According to him, the adoption of the new EU directive creates additional opportunities for exchanging experience and supporting specialized anti-corruption bodies in European countries.

During the visit, the ICAC delegation also held bilateral meetings, including with the Integrity Authority of Hungary. In addition, ICAC signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA). The document provides for the development of long-term cooperation in training, exchange of expertise and strengthening the international anti-corruption network.
