Following the session, a number of decisions were adopted to advance regional cooperation in combating corruption, including in the areas of corruption prevention, financial investigations, mutual legal assistance and beneficial ownership transparency.

Among the main outcomes was the adoption of the Doha Declaration on Strengthening Preventive Measures Against Corruption, as well as decisions aimed at enhancing beneficial ownership transparency and identifying the ultimate beneficial owners of legal persons and other legal arrangements. The states also agreed to expedite the processing of mutual legal assistance requests in corruption cases and to further develop the Convention’s implementation review mechanism.

A separate decision provides for a regional meeting of experts from ministries of justice and interior and anti-corruption authorities to develop a framework for a unified Arab guide on parallel financial investigations into corruption offences. Such investigations are conducted alongside investigations into the underlying offence and help trace related funds and assets, identify proceeds of crime and facilitate their recovery.

The Arab Anti-Corruption Convention was adopted in 2010 and entered into force in 2013. It currently has 15 States Parties: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, the State of Palestine, Sudan, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates. Seven other members of the League of Arab States – Comoros, Djibouti, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Syria and Yemen – are not parties to the Convention. At the same time, 21 Arab states were represented at the sixth session of the Conference, meaning that countries not party to the Convention also participated in its work.

The seventh session of the Conference will take place in Oman in 2028.
